DetonatioN FocusMe - Saigon Buffalo tournament prediction

One of the busiest games at the Mid-Season Invitational 2022, the first international League of Legends tournament, will be between DetonatioN FocusMe (Japan) and Saigon Buffalo (Vietnam).

The Mid-Season Invitational 2022, with a prize pool of $250,000, is one of the most significant events in the League of Legends world. The Spring Splits were required to enter the tournament, and the winners of these splits, drawn from 11 Riot leagues, would meet at the final event. Objective circumstances also made adjustments. Thus, LCL will not be represented in the tournament due to the cancellation of the corresponding spring split.

The tournament organizers also introduced a 35ms speed limit to create the same conditions for all teams, as the Chinese team representing the LPL is forced to compete in online mode, as it cannot compete in lan mode due to coronavirus restrictions still in force in the country.

Established in 2013, DetonatioN FocusMe is a Japanese team with a very rich history. This team is quite successful, although, as they say, it does not grab the stars from the sky. They are regulars in the top three of their regional LJL championships, but have never placed higher than second place. Internationally, the team has participated in Worlds three times, but without much success, with a result in the 14th-16th place. Twice the team took part in Mid-Season Invitational, the result even in this case was far from successful – 7-9 places.

The 2021 season was a disappointing one for the team. After a two-year hiatus, they took part in the Mid-Season Invitational where they lost to Infinity Esports and were annihilated by Cloud9. In the tiebreak, however, the Japanese were still able to beat Cloud9, but it didn’t help them much. The team failed to qualify for the group stage of the tournament, gaining none of the wins there, and their result fluctuated from 14th to 16th place.

This year DetonatioN FocusMe performed very well in the Regional League and withstood a very tough and tense encounter to advance to the Mid-Season Invitational, literally snatching victory from Sengoku Gaming. The start of the Mid-Season Invitational was also not bad for the team. The Japanese managed to beat a fairly strong opponent, Team Aze. And now they will “clash” in Saigon Buffalo. And the forecast for this game is also very favorable for the Japanese.

Saigon Buffalo is the current name of the Vietnamese team that previously played as Dashing Buffalo, Phong Vũ Buffalo and Young Generation. The change of team names is very simple: change of sponsors, and the peculiarity of eSports, among other things, is that the sponsors of teams want one way or another “sound” in the names. The team has also recently undergone serious personnel changes. So it was left by top line player Zeros, who has “star” status. New top line players Raizo and Kaido were added to the squad. The replacements did not result in any major positives: the team finished fourth in the VCS summer season. But the Lowkey Esports playoffs went very poorly for the team, after which Saigon Buffalo decided on a radical “redesign”. Four debutant players joined the squad: BeanJ, Rby, Arrietty and Taki. In addition, the style of play was radically changed. And it worked: The team broke its losing streak.

True, the team made it to the Mid-Season Invitational 2022 thanks to a lucky fluke: GAM Esports dropped out of the tournament after beating Saigon Buffalo 3-1 in the match for the ticket to the tournament. But it got off to a disappointing start with a loss to T1. As for their chances against DetonatioN FocusMe, experts rate the Vietnamese prospects as very favourable.
